Owton’s Top Tips!

If you’re after proper diced beef that holds its shape and delivers on flavour, our 350g pack is a must-have for slow-cooked favourites. Cut from premium British beef and prepared by our expert butchers, it’s ideal for stews, casseroles, curries or hearty one-pots. For best results, brown in a hot pan before adding to your dish – this locks in flavour and gives you that rich, deep base.

We’d recommend using it in a classic beef stew, Chinese stir-fry or slow-cooked ragu – anything where the meat can really soak up the sauce. Store in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze on arrival if you’re not using it straight away. Still unsure about our diced beef? We supply over 1,000 pubs, restaurants and hotels across the South, so chances are you’ve already tasted the quality.

What can I make from diced beef?

Diced beef is incredibly versatile and works well in slow-cooked dishes like beef stew, beef bourguignon, casseroles, curries, chilli, or pie fillings. You can also use it for kebabs, Asian-style stir fries, or even braised dishes served over mash, rice, or noodles.

How do I cook diced beef until it is tender?

The key to tender diced beef is low and slow cooking. Browning the beef first adds flavour, then simmering it gently in liquid (like stock, wine, or sauce) for 1.5 to 3 hours helps break down the connective tissue. A slow cooker, oven or stovetop pot all work well, just keep the heat low and allow time for the beef to soften.

Can I fry diced beef?

Yes. You can pan-fry diced beef, especially for recipes like stir-fries or dishes where you want a quicker cook and a caramelised crust. For more tender results, flash-fry and pair with a sauce.

Is diced beef good for a curry?

Absolutely. Diced beef is excellent in slow-cooked curries where it can absorb rich spices and become melt-in-the-mouth tender. It’s particularly suited to dishes like beef madras, vindaloo, or Thai massaman curry, where time and moisture turn into deeply flavourful bites.

Do you have to fry diced beef before slow cooking?

While it’s not strictly necessary, browning diced beef first is highly recommended. Searing the meat creates a rich, savoury base and enhances the final flavour. That said, if you’re in a hurry, you can skip this step but just be sure to season well and add flavour elsewhere in the recipe.

Can I boil diced beef?

Yes, you can boil diced beef, but it’s best done as a gentle simmer rather than a rolling boil. Boiling too vigorously can make the meat tough. Simmering in stock or sauce helps the beef become tender and allows flavours to develop over time. This is perfect for soups, stews, or slow-cooked meals.

Can I cook diced beef from frozen?

Yes, you can cook diced beef straight from frozen, especially in slow-cooked dishes like stews or casseroles. However, for best flavour and texture, it’s recommended to thaw the beef first so you can brown it properly helping build a richer flavour base. If cooking from frozen, be sure to extend the cooking time slightly and check that the meat reaches a safe internal temperature of at least 75°C (165°F).
