Getting Ready For BBQ Season

As BBQ season is almost upon us, which usually starts in the spring for us Brits rather than waiting for the height of summer. However, with the unpredictable weather we are having, you can never be too prepared for when the sun does decide to come out, even if it is still slightly chilly. We have pulled together the most useful tips on preparing for BBQ season with a few delicious recipes that your friends and family are guaranteed to love.

Clean Your BBQ

A charred coating on a grate in fact does not add flavour to your delicious meats. Any shiny black flakes on the underside of the hood are unlikely to be chipping paint and they are often burned-on residue which is a fire risk.

It is recommended to dry scrub crud from grates, burners, and inside surfaces with a non-scratch sponge or a nylon brush. You can use a plain cloth or a wired brush on uncoated steel or iron. Once the surfaces have been washed, rinsed, and dried you are good to go!

Buying Grilling Equipment

Your grilling equipment is the heart of any successful barbecue. Whilst bbq grills come in all shapes and sizes, every chef has their preference between gas and charcoal, the tools you need are all the same.

Investing in a good set of barbecue tools can last for years. It is recommended to invest in stainless steel spatula, tongs, and a grilling fork that can stand the heat. As well as flame-resistant gloves and aprons and a basting brush. Also do not forget the extra gas or charcoal for the grill!

Keep Fire Safety In Mind

According to the National Fire Protection Association, between 2011 and 2016 US fire departments responded to an average of 9,600 home fires started by grills per year. Whether you choose to host your bbq indoors or outside depending on the weather it is always important to keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

Fire safety when grilling means making sure the area around the grill is clear or any flammable objects, as well as checking the grills grease collection tray. A full grease collection tray should be emptied to avoid a grease fire.

BBQ Food Preparations

The key part to hosting a successful barbecue is the food and drink. The menu for your barbecue can be as complex or as simple as you want to make it. From racks of ribs, lamb kebabs, hot dogs, glazed chicken, bbq chicken wings, to Pork Sausages Owton’s has plenty of BBQ products for you to choose from.
