The Owton’s family history have been connected with Chalcroft farm where the butchers and farm shop is based, for over 400 years and has been associated with shops in the area since the 1800s. Iconic British Award winning sausages
In 1978 Chalcroft farm shop began producing its own sausages and at the inaugural Hampshire Fair regional food and drink festival in 2002 won the Supreme Sausage award.
The good old standard pork banger is Chalcroft’s best seller but other varieties have helped raise the shop’s profile. Last year the Corporal Jones Wartime recipe Pork Sausage, named after the Dads army butcher won the Iconic British Sausage category in the British Sausage week awards.
Chalcroft has become well-known for its barbecue packs and an exciting range of exotic meats.
Exotic Tastes and innovation.
Owton’s were approached by someone who wanted kangaroo meat and said ‘we know if we come to you that you will be able to get it for us’. Rising to this challenge, Owton’s contacted the Australian Embassy and became the first butchers to import it into the UK. The range now includes crocodile – a surprisingly delicate that is compared to chicken and crab – ostrich, wild boar and kudu, an African antelope. Customers can take a plunge with the exotic range trying some of Owton’s own recipe ostrich and cranberry burgers and wild boar and apple sausages.
